Welcome. I’ve put this website together to provide information about the benefits of making sure that shade is available to kids and to provide links to resources dealing with shade and playgrounds. There are also news reports about shade and shade options, playgrounds, water parks, splash pads, architectural and engineering elements and other interesting and related information. I hope that all of the visitors to this site find the content to be educational, engaging, fun and useful.
Being aware of our need to protect our skin from harmful Ultraviolet (UV) rays is incredibly important. The American Academy of Dermatology and the Shade Foundation offer excellent resources for learning how to implement sun safe lifestyles. In addition, hot playground surfaces can cause serious burns. Always check playground equipment before allowing children to play! You can help create play spaces enhanced with shade! | Everywhere I go, I notice playgrounds, even ones located in big, spacious and wooded parks, placed in areas that are totally exposed to the sun. It seems that too often, as playgrounds are built, many or all of the natural shade trees are removed. So kids and parents can be limited in the time spent at the playground and their enjoyment simply because of too much sun. The same is true sometimes at school playgrounds, where kids limit their activities because of the heat.
